Fiction and non-fiction

I've always wanted and tried to write fiction and have written adult short stories and children's stories as well as novels. The Box is my first published novel.

"I was drawn in from the very first page. The characters became dear to me, especially Jo, who seemed very believable and relatable to Even the more minor characters seemed fleshed out. Places were so well described that I was there with the characters. I was deeply moved by the book."

"I found it totally engrossing, true in every sense, moving, perceptive, engaging and skilfully written. The two main characters are psychologically convincing and the reader feels their grief and pain without being drawn into a miasma of darkness. Susan Jordan is not only a gifted poet but a powerful novelist."

"The last thing I was expecting, given the subject matter, was that it would be such a page-turner. I absolutely loved the style, pace, depth and rhythm of the story. I found it extremely moving and deeply educative. The way Susan Jordan has managed to convey the lived experience of all the different characters is quite extraordinary."

"I found it a really good read - very sensitive, quite deep.  I've already recommended it to quite a few people."

The Belated Writer

After finishing an MA in Creative Writing at the end of 2011, I started a blog about becoming a writer later in life. I soon found myself posting pieces about other aspects of me and the world, but writing about writing is the central theme. The book is a self-published collection of pieces from the blog, on various subjects from poetry to public transport and Buddhism to Brexit. It's both funny and serious, wry and reflective, and it includes contributions from the inimitable Adelina A Vark, who has written, among other pieces, the 'Forward' and the 'Afterward'. If you have ever tried to publish a novel or wondered whether you are a poet, you will recognise much here. This is a belated writer's companion, a book for dipping into and finding pieces that speak to you.

The Belated Writer is available from me or from Amazon. You can find the blog here.
